Did You Know Chocolate Lovers Weigh Less?


In one study, people who ate chocolate a few times a week or more weighed less than those who rarely indulged in chocolate. The researchers found that even though the chocolate eaters overall diet had more calories and saturated fat, they tended to weigh less than the people who avoided chocolate. People who ate chocolate 5 times per week weighed on average 5-7 pounds less! The researchers did not propose a reason for why the chocolate eaters weighed less but other studies have shown that dark chocolate can reduce cravings for both sweet and salty foods (Check out one of my older posts for details on that study).

Chocolate lovers should keep in mind that not all chocolate is created equal. Dark chocolate is best because it is packed with antioxidants called flavonoids. But the good news is that you no longer have to feel guilty for your chocolate indulgence. This study suggests that a daily dose of chocolate might actually be good for you!
